Welcome to Brain Injury Resource Group...we're here with you.
We are a non-profit organization founded by brain injury survivors that compassionately works together to help people regain their sense of humanity and significance in the world after an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). We empower survivors and caregivers through an international and collaborative approach that develops partnerships and opportunities for us in OUR world. We extend beyond identifying shortcomings or systematic problems and develop solutions for our global community. We believe more education and awareness helps the neuro-typical world understand the day to day life of a survivor. We know our primary responsibility resides with the survivors and caregivers we serve. Our overall goal is to get ABI’ers to a point of hope. BIRG is a survivor and caregiver staffed organization unlike any other out there. So consider this your call to action as we actively seek volunteers who align with our principle mission on a global level.
What is Acquired Brain Injury?
At BIRG, we use the definition for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), which is frequently used by international brain injury organizations outside of North America. ABI includes a broad range of brain injuries acquired since birth, such as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or non-traumatic causes. Examples include stroke, near-drowning, hypoxic and anaxoic brain injury, tumors, neurotoxins, electric shock or lightening strikes. This definition for ABI does not include brain damage from neurodegenerative disorders, such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's diseases. We believe a more expansive definition of brain injury than TBI includes a broader range of survivors in our community.
An International Approach
We believe at BIRG that dealing with ABI takes more than a city by city, state by state or even national initiative. This is an international problem of which the time has come for us all to connect and make an actual impact! We live in an online connected world. The days of disconnected brick and mortar locations, business as usual and small thinking, are done. We imagine the progress that we can make by impacting our world when we connect caregivers to caregivers, medical community to medical community, legal field to legal field, social services to social services from all over the world. We believe an approach that emphasizes "Recovery Without Walls," recognizes that we all have knowledge and can help each other to spur positive growth, change, impact within OUR world.
Each of us have heard "What a world we live in". Be the difference! Make a change in your world, our world. We are always looking for those that are willing to stand up and be counted. Whether it be from a wheelchair or an armchair, make a positive impact. A global impact requires a global team with accommodating to your schedule as BIRG is a 24/7/365 community like the world has never seen. You bet we have more than plans! We have commitment, we have those that live this unrequested life altering change. Enough with waiting for others to develop solutions to our problems, come together and help one another develop solution. Be an active part of change in OUR world. When you join BIRG you join a team, you are amongst those whom have walked the same steps. You can participate in change, become a contributor to change, you impact the world WE live in. Please reach out and be an active part of OUR world. It all starts with one little step.
